Hiram L. Mason papers, [undated] and 1863-1906.

As a captain in the Seventh Michigan Infantry, Company B, during the Civil War, Mason kept two diaries (October 22-December 27, 1863, and March 1-16, 1865) describing the weather, regimental whereabouts, and routine camp and march activities. Also included are Mason's account of the battle of the Wilderness and the battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia (May 1864); published circulars of the Grand Army of the Republic; and some personal and family data.
